COSTA RICA SEEKS TO BECOME DESTINATION FOR WEDDINGS AND
HONEYMOONS, September 27, 2010
The Costa Rica Tourism Board will
participate for the first time in the international fair,
The Wedding Salon, to promote Costa Rica as a wedding
destination paradise
Sustainable tourism and celebrity weddings
have helped the country to become a destination for weddings
and honeymoons. The supermodel Gisele Bündchen and her
fiancée, Tom Brady; the pop singer Pink and Carey Hart, tied
the knot on Costa Rican soil in the same place where the
star of Two and a Half Men, Charlie Sheen, proposed to his
girlfriend, Brook Muelle.
Hotel owners around the Guanacaste zone
register 8 weddings per month, but foreign tourists are also
interested in rainy zones
ICT ANNOUNCES DIRECT FLIGHT BETWEEN LONDON AND LIBERIA

The wholesaler First Choice, through their
airline company Thomsom Airlines, will fly non-stop between
Gatwick Airport in London, England, and Daniel Oduber
Airport in Liberia, as of November 2nd. The flight, lasting
12 hours, will use a Boeing 767 with capacity for 258
passengers; and will fly between the two cities every
Tuesday.
First Choice flew to Liberia in 2007 and thanks to marketing
negotiations between the Costa Rica Tourism Board (ICT) and
the wholesaler, they’ve returned to Costa Rica for high
season in 2010, making it the only direct flight between
England and Costa Rica.
“This flight will generate an important increase in the
arrival of British vacationers, with two-weeks stays and
with a variety of trips throughout Guanacaste, La Fortuna,
Arenal, Monteverde, Sarapiqui, Tortuguero, and San José”,
said the Tourism Minister, Carlos Ricardo Benavides.
English tourists that visit Costa Rica are characterized as
well-experienced travelers, with significant financial
incomes, and having university degrees. They are usually
drawn to destinations that offer warm temperatures for their
vacation and sight-seeing excursions of the flora and fauna.
In addition to First Choice, the Daniel Oduber International
Airport , will receive during the next high season (which
begins in the middle of December) flights originating from
Montreal, Canada (Air Canada), Chicago, United States (Apple
Vacations) and Düsseldorf, Germany (Tui), which will bring
in more tourists to the Guanacaste area and the country’s
Northern Zone

como sede los rápidos del río
Pacuare, donde competirán
representantes de 35 países.
“Esta competencia de alto perfil
internacional coloca al país en
una posición de ventaja para
mostrar su fauna y flora
alrededor del mundo”, dijo el
ministro de Turismo, Carlos
Ricardo Benavides, al conocer la
noticia.
El
Mundial de Rafting se disputará
en octubre 2011 en dos trayectos
del río en la zona de Turrialba:
uno de 20 kilómetros de
Siquirres a Tres Equis en el que
la navegación alcanza un nivel
de dificultad profesional y otro
de 700 metros en Cabeza de Güey,
San Joaquín, informó El
Financiero.
Los
atletas competirán en cuatro
disciplinas: time trial (velocidad),
head to head (uno a uno), slalom
(obstáculos) y down river (río
abajo), y serán evaluados por un
jurado de doce jueces
extranjeros y ocho locales,
certificados por la Federación
Internacional de Rafting.
La
organización del Mundial de
Rafting incluye un Pre Mundial,
que se llevará a cabo del 6 al
10 de octubre 2010 en el Pacuare.
En este pre evento optativo
participarán el jurado y 21
equipos de República Checa,
Kazajstán, Brasil, Venezuela,
Estados Unidos y Costa Rica. El
objetivo es familiarizarse con
el río en condiciones similares
a las que esperan tener en 2011.
Esta
es la segunda ocasión en que
Costa Rica es escogida como sede
de un Campeonato Mundial de
Rafting; la primera vez fue en
1998, un año después de que se
fundara la Federación. Desde el
año 2000, este evento deportivo
se lleva a cabo cado dos años.
Las sedes previas incluyen
Estados Unidos (2001), República
Checa (2003), Ecuador (2005),
Corea del Sur (2007) y Bosnia
(2009).
Más
del 70% de los extranjeros que
ingresaron al país en 2009
practicaron alguna actividad de
aventura , siendo las preferidas
canopy, rafting, kayaking, surf,
buceo y bungee jumping, según
datos del Instituto
Costarricense de Turismo.
