Arenal Hanging Bridges is a new tourism
attraction in La Fortuna, only 4 km (2.5 miles) west of
Tabacon within a 250 acres (618 acre) reserve of primary
forest. Visitor who love nature can enjoy 15 bridges from 5
to 100 meters long, friendly design along 3 km rain forest
circuit of interpretive trails built with paving blocks to
prevent slipping. The bridges are built of aluminum,
galvanized steel and concrete, to ensure maximum security
for their visitors. They were designed by structural
engineers; with the most demanding safety margins in the
world. Guided by a naturalist, who through the natural
history will open for you the doors of a fascinating and
colorful Tropical Rain Forest World. The imposing views of
the Volcano from the hanging bridges over the forest make a

between the rainforest and the Monteverde Cloud Forest you
will find the Arenal Reserve. Experience the most
spectacular views of the Arenal Volcano and Lake from the
sky Tram or the sky Trek (zip lines) or take a nice hike
trough trails full of flora and fauna, whatever your choice
is, this reserve you will always remember
The Sky Tram is a 15-minunte aerial tram ride through the
rain forest where you will have spectacular views of the
Arenal Volcano, the Arenal Lake, and the Tilaran mountain
range. After you ascend on the Sky Tram, you will descend on
the Sky trek, a 9.186-foot long zip line system that gives
you the opportunity to enjoy the rain forest and its
beautiful views in a fun, easy and safe way. Both rides are
located at the Arenal Reserve, a transition reserve between
the rain forest and the cloud forest, where the visitors can
practice hiking and bird watching as well.

Arenal Volcano
and Hot Springs
Experience the powerful sight of one of
the world's most active volcanoes. Arenal Volcano, active
since 1968, constantly ejects gases, water, red-hot lava.
The highly active Arenal Volcano is a must-see, not only for
its constant activity, but also for its imposing, perfect
cone and the exuberant vegetation in the surrounding areas.
Near the volcano, you'll visit the Hot Springs, which offers
an opportunity for those who want to take a dip in the
natural mineral hot springs that descend from the volcano.
You'll find different pools filled with volcanically heated
mineral water. The pools are surrounded by some of the most
impressively well-manicured tropical gardens of Costa Rica.
A hot-water river, where natural ponds have been adjusted
for your enjoyment, crosses the property.
A delicious dinner will be served overlooking the marvelous
'Mountain of Fire' and the luxuriant gardens, all surrounded
by a rich tropical rainforest.

The Caño Negro
Wildlife Refuge
(Full Day Tour)
The Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge and the Rio Frio are
biological humid areas considered to be one of the richest
in biological diversity in Costa Rica. You will find a great
variety of resident and migratory birds plus three different
species of monkeys as well as iguanas, sloths, turtles and
caymans.

tour starts at 7: 30 a.m. when you will be picked up at your
hotel for a very comfortable 1-½ hour transfer to Los
Chiles, a culturally diverse village located only 4 km from
the Nicaraguan border. You will board your boat here for a 4
hour floating safari through Tropical Rain Forest and
pastures An experienced English speaking guide leads the
tour. Some birds are residents in the area and it is
possible to see hundreds of them especially during the dry
season. Among them are the Anhinga or Snake - bird , Roseate
Spoonbill, Wood Storks, the Jabiru (the largest bird in
Central America and very endangered), as well as the
Olivaceous Cormorant, that makes its nests in the area, it
is also the most popular bird in the refuge. Caño Negro has
the largest colony of cormorants in Costa Rica.
Along the river you will also see howler
monkeys, spider monkeys, white-faced monkeys, the three-toed
sloth and some reptiles such as caimans, Jesus Christ lizard
and turtles.

Rio Celeste
Tour (full day)
After a typical breakfast in route to
Rio Celeste, you'll arrive at the Tenorio Volcano National
Park, were you'll begin our 7 km hike (approximately 4
hours) through the tropical rain forest. You'll arrive to
'Los Teñideros' of the Rio Celeste, the site where two
streams of crystalline water come together and form the
heavenly color blue that gives the river its name. You'll
return through trails, rich with ecological wonders, that
lead you to the OLLAS openings in the earth where you can
excavate healing mud, take a mud bath, and a dip in the
natural hot springs all while observing the attractions of
Tenorio Volcano. You'll continue your hike through the
jungle to seek out the volcano's furnace vents that expel
gases of extreme high temperatures. On your decent you will
get to see the spectacular Rio Celeste waterfall whose
colors makes it one of a kind. Your final reward is an
exquisite lunch at the end of our journey and after the ride
back to the hotels.

Venado Caves
(half day tour)
The Venado caves were formed during the
Miocene period (15 or 20 million years ago). For many years
they were under sea level but due to tectonic movements they
surfaced. The Guatuzos aborigines discovered the caves.
Limestone rocks, stalactites, stalagmites and corals, form
most of the caves. The whimsical stone formations are formed
by the underground river.
Depart from your hotel at around 8:
00am. for one-hour ride to the Venado Village. Once at the
entrance of the caverns, you are equipped with a miner's
hat, flashlight, and rubber boots. The entrance is large and
leads to the first chamber. There you get acquainted with
the cave environment. The tour guide then leads you through
water carved passageways that open up into 8 different
chambers with awe-inspiring rock formations such as
stalagmites and stalactites. You will also find will find
marine fossils as well bats, spiders and crickets. Each
chamber is a rock gallery with spectacular colors and
shapes.

What to bring: Because you will have to
walk through the river and waterfalls, we recommend that you
take light clothes, hiking shoes, sandals, and extra clothes
to be able to change when you finish the exploration of the
caves.

Arenal Volcano Hike
Before the active period of 1968, a lavish
canopy of vegetation covered the Arenal Volcano. People
that climbed Arenal’ s summit related that inside the crater
there were big trees and at night, they slept in places
where there was some heat due to small steam outlets.
Right now the green area is located at the
east side of the Mountain, and other little green parts can
be seen on the north and the south of the volcano. Enjoy
the most extraordinary view of the Arenal Volcano on a
gentle Hike along the base of this marvelous “Mountain of
Fire”.
The Hike begins in one the trails close to
the volcano, this trail will take us through the forest
over recent lava flows and the area destroyed in 1968 now in
the process of regeneration. We are going to be on this
trail for about 2 ½ hours.

Lake Crossing Monteverde
This service, half tour – half transfer is
an scenic, fast and the newest way to go or come from La
Fortuna (Arenal Volcano Area), to the Monteverde area.
Around 7:30 a.m. we start picking
everybody from the hotels in La Fortuna for a 30 minutes
microbus drive to the Arenal Lake Dam.
There we will aboard into a very
comfortable and safe pontoon boat for a 30 to 40 minutes (aprox.)
ride to Río Chiquito, a little town at the other side of the
lake.
Arenal Lake is the largest and the most
important lake in Costa Rica, it was man made in 1974 to
provide hydroelectric energy for the country. It is also a
place where you can find different kinds of resident and
migratory birds. Sometimes mammals can be seen in the
surroundings, also great views of the Arenal Volcano when
it’s clear.
Once at Río Chiquito, we’ll leave the boat
and make a short break to strength the legs, after, another
1 1 / 2 hour microbus ride to get to the hotels in the
Monteverde area, sometimes during the rainy season this
transfer could take longer.
